Bed Bug Control

Bed Bug Control

We Do Revolutionary Biological Control - No Pesticides and About Half the Cost of Heat Treatment

Bed Bugs are Everywhere

Three of Ohio's biggest cities are included on the list of the 50 most bed bug-infested towns in 2019. Cincinnati was ranked #5, Cleveland was ranked #7 and Columbus was #11 in a national ranking of cities with the worst bed bug infestations.

The only good thing about bed bugs is they do not carry diseases. However, they must have a blood meal between each of four growth stages and people react differently to bed bug bites. Some people suffer allergic reactions and develop painful swelling (US EPA).

How to Know if You Have Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are small but observable and they leave many signs of their presence. They are drawn to the breath and body odors of sleeping people or where people spend most of their time (chairs, couches, etc.). That’s why you can often find them near the head of the bed or in cracks, crevices or folds in furniture you use frequently.
  • Bite marks anywhere on the body, generally with a small blood clotted center (they always draw blood).
  • Small, spotty bloodstains on sheets and pillowcases.
  • Small black spots on bedding or furniture from fecal matter and small whitish-brown shed skins on linens.
  • Small reddish-brown and flat insects either alone or congregating on or around mattress (look in folds and crevices), bed frame or regularly occupied furniture (turn furniture over and inspect folds closely).
  • Eggs look like small pieces of rice (white and oblong) and are glued to surfaces usually in clusters.
Total control of bed bugs requires that you pick up all clutter (clothing, towels, blankets, pillows, etc.) and place in garbage bags prior to washing or at least placing in a drier for at least 40 minutes on high temperature. This will kill bed bugs and eggs. This must be done at the same time of professional treatment so that these items won't be re-occupied by bed bugs. Do not re-use the trash bag!
If you miss only one egg carrying female the infestation will start over again! There are 3 primary methods to control bed bugs:
  • Heat treatment (effective but expensive).
  • Pesticides - there are many different pesticides used to control bed bugs
  • Biological control - the entire colony is infected with a biological agent that is spread throughout the entire colony to safely eliminate all bed bugs.

Portage Pest Control uses BIOLOGICAL CONTROL to SAFELY eliminate the entire colony.
